 Row A - DEMOCRAT

An educator, engineer, and mother of three grown children, Jan has lived in CT since she attended the University of New Haven. After earning her degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jan put her problem solving skills to use starting her career at Pfizer in 1984. After working in that field for 18 years, Jan switched gears and began pursuing another of her passions - education. She has taught science at technical high schools across CT since 2002. This diversity of experiences uniquely prepared Jan for the next phase of her career - advocating for workers rights’. Jan began getting involved with her union and followed that path all the way to the Presidency of the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut where she represents 30,000 public sector, healthcare, and education workers.

“I’m naturally an advocate - I have been an advocate for my children, my students, and my members. I’m running for State Senate so I can advocate for everyone in Cheshire, Meriden, Middlefield, and Middletown.

As AFT-CT President Jan has worked closely with the state legislature including serving on the negotiating team for the State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition.

“I know the process of how things happen in the Capital, and I want to use that experience to hit the ground running to deliver results for families across the 13th district. I know the issues, I talk to workers every day about their hardships and what the state could do to make their lives a little easier.”
